Kick Start Your Summer!
There is so much fun stuff going on… don’t miss out! And please lend a hand to those who work so hard to keep our beautiful mountain community, well, beautiful. And remember you can visit our FaceBook page to find out what our friends are up to, too!
June 18th – Hidee Mine holds its annual bash for us locals. Free everything, and don’t forget a sweater no matter how warm it is – it stays cool inside the mountain! Mile marker 6 or so on the Central City Parkway.
June 19th – Lou Bunch Days, Central City. Our own president will don the frills of the ladies of times past to help Central celebrate our history, most particularly the history of Central’s most entertaining women. Bed races, food and fun – come join us!
June 26th – 9 am until dusk or done – Help Save the Red Men Cemetery! The Historical Advisory Preservation Commission along with the Cities of Central and Black Hawk and Gilpin County are trying to preserve one of this area’s historical cemeteries located above Central City. Vandalism and overuse have decimated this area – the goal is to replace the old fencing around the site and istall signage explaining the history of the cemetery, and one of the last of the Med Men Lodge members will attend to show their support. Bring shovels, hammers, gloves, sun block and good shoes and join other locals in defending this piece of our history. Follow Eureka up the hill behind Central City and look for the food… er.. other volunteers.
Also June 26 – Residents of Missouri Lakes enjoy their annual picnic at the park across from the school. Come and meet your neighbors! 10: am to 1Pm
July 24th – Peak to Peak Rotary Club’s annual DUCK RACE means it is officially hot summertime! And there is much summertime fun planned for you! Casinos and the Colorado Gambler have teamed up to help us have the best fun ever this year while supporting Rotary’s community service projects. Join us for food and fun for the whole family – at the Golden Mardi Gras Casino on Main Street in Black Hawk. And don’t forget to adopt a duck! Ducks are 5 bucks each – Quack Packs (6) are $25. Send us a note if you would like to adopt a duck to contribute to community scholarships and more – and a chance at fabulous prizes like ski passes, hotel stays, and even a thousand bucks cash!!
July 31st – Gilpin County Film Festival – for a schedule and tickets, visit http://www.denverfilm.org/filmcenter/reserve.aspx?id=16630&FID=53
