Our Service Projects

The motto of all Rotarians is Service Above Self. Click the link for info from Rotary International on what that motto fully stands for. For Peak to Peak Rotarians, it means pooling our efforts and funds to make things better for people everywhere – for ourselves, for our communities and for communities around the world. Peak to Peak Rotarians participate in several service projects both locally and globally. Click on any link below to see the details of the project, the contact person for that project and what is needed to make it successful. A history of Peak to Peak Rotary past projects is being compiled and will be available soon. New projects will be added as they happen, and a task manager is being sought so that this site can be used by Rotarians to manage those projects. Stay tuned!

Rotary Foundation The Rotary Foundation ensures a permanent endowment and yearly funding for Rotary projects at the club, district and global levels. The Peak to Peak Rotary Club supports the foundation through member donations, fundraising and annual club contributions. The Rotary Foundation supports Rotary Clubs through grants for service projects through a revolving fund, and a permanent fund. Our district, 5450 is a “Super User” district, putting those funds to good use with service projects in our communities and around the world. It is the Foundation which supports Rotary’s efforts to End Polio.

Youth Programs

International Youth - Our club sponsors foreign exchange students yearly in partnership with other Rotary clubs. Several members have played host to exchange students and families throughout the years, and Frank and Susan Lutz continue to keep our club active with these programs. In tune with Rotary’s mission of spreading peace, understanding and goodwill between countries, and serving the next generation, Rotary exchange programs enable cross continent communication on a personal level, teach about different cultures and provide enlightening experiences in leadership and diplomacy for future leaders.

RYLA and Young RYLARYLA is a 5-day leadership conference held at the YMCA of the Rockies, in Estes Park, Colorado. These two Rotary districts cover Northern Colorado, Wyoming and Western Nebraska. The objectives of RYLA are:

  •
    • To encourage and assist youth leaders and potential leaders in methods of responsible and effective leadership by providing them with a training experience.
    • To encourage continued and stronger leadership of youth by youth
    • To publicly recognize the outstanding qualities of many young people who are rendering service to their schools and communities as leaders

The entire focus of RYLA is to provide foundational leadership skills for teenagers. It has been said that leadership cannot be taught, but it must be learned. At RYLA there are opportunities to learn leadership skills through experiential activities, incredible speakers, small group discussions, large group presentations, and in building life-long friendships. The peak to Peak Rotary club aims to sponsor two RYLA students per year.

Gilpin Interact – Interact is essentially a youth Rotary club, sponsored by a local Rotary club and either community or school based. Our local Interact club at the Gilpin School has sponsored several service projects both locally and globally, and is epecially active in recycling and other environmentally focused projects at their school – as a result, our school cafeteria has become more responsible. Congratualations to our Interactors for making a difference! Click the link to visit their page!

END POLIO NOW – Rotarians the world over, in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, have made the eradication of this terrible disease a priority, and we’re almost there! While the world is 99% polio free, that last 1% will be the toughest challenge yet… YOU can help!

ROTARIANS PLEASE NOTE: Our 2010-2011 goal for Polio this year has been upped to $2000! We’ve done it before, let’s do it again for that final 1%! Let’s eradicate Polio in our lifetime! Yeah!
