Stephen Bailey to Speak Sept. 16
In follow up to what will likely be a great talk with Jared Polis on September 2nd, we will also feature the challenger for Congressional District 2, Stephen Bailey of Niwot. So, let’s see if the tone or audience changes – I’m betting it’s the same old bunch of friendly folks with just a slightly different set of questions. So, to be a greatly informed and absolutely stuffed CD2 voter, join us for both lunches! See the other post for today at peaktopeakrotary.org for the reason why the Peak to Peak Rotary Club is the best spot for political speakers. Thanks a bunch to both Jared and Stephen for thinking of us!! Again – guest lunches at the Isle of Capris AMAZING buffet are just $10 for all you can eat, great service, and even better company. For more information about attending Rotary lunches as a guest, speaker, or Rotarian, contact Michelle at 303-582-3934 or by email at michelle @ northrup. com

Happy Independence Day from Michelle
Hello Rotarians and Friends,
I am here wishing you a happy, safe and fun-filled Independence Day. At the Fire Eater house, we honor this day by playing John Phillip Souza marches at full blast all morning, enjoying the liberty to grill, eat and drink merrily, the freedom to play horseshoes, and finally a reading of some freedom speech or document before the big boom town opens up in the sky over Black Hawk. Many choose the Declaration of Independence – the document and spirit this day celebrates – as the standard reading, but there is a fine exerpt of George Washington’s general orders given on July 2, 1776 that I thought I’d share with you. Because it’s good to recall the circumstances of our release, and because everybody but everybody just loves George Washington. If that’s too serious for you, I also added the awesome Founding Fathers Rap from JibJab at the bottom. Word!!
Ted Doing Great!
Thanks to all the well wishers for helping Ted stay positive and recover. He’s now able to get in and out of a wheelchair and go to the dining room for dinner. Physical therapy twice a day leaves him a bit tired, but he still appreciates your cards, calls and visits. You can still find him at Lifecare Evergreen. Let Michelle know if you have any questions or need more info.
Ted in Hospital
Please send hopes and prayers. If you would like to send a card, Michelle will drop these off directly. Ted has a bout with pneumonia and terrible arthritis pain, but was doing much better when I went to visit him yesterday. He would also appreciate calls and visits. Let Michelle know if you need more info.
Kick Start Your Summer!
There is so much fun stuff going on… don’t miss out! And please lend a hand to those who work so hard to keep our beautiful mountain community, well, beautiful. And remember you can visit our FaceBook page to find out what our friends are up to, too!
Peak to Peak is back at the Isle!!
The Peak to Peak Rotary Club is delighted to announce that we have moved our lunch location back to where we started out - Farraday’s Steakhouse at The Isle of Capris Casino in Black Hawk. Our first meeting at this location will take place on Thursday, June 3rd. Farraday’s is located on the casino level across from Calypso’s Buffet. Guest lunches are $10. If you would like more information on Rotary Club meetings, please contact President, D’lynn Morse at (303) 582-3934.
Our featured speaker for this date is a special one – French exchange student, Cora Menaceur, is taking a train tour of the U.S. in support of Rotary Water Projects, and the Peak to Peak Club is delighted to be her host on her stop in Colorado. Her presentation will feature information on Rotary Water Projects around the world! This is a great chance to see exactly what Rotary is and does. Please join us!
Accolades for Tina Goar and the Gilpin Foundation
In case you missed it in the bulletin, our Gilpin School Superintendent has really outdone herself – she wrote a successful grant that is bringing in $25K – that’s 25 THOUSAND dollars – into our classrooms in the form of smartboards. And that’s just the beginning – Tina will have more opportunities throughout the year to obtain more grants as a result of this success.
This is a technology improvement that directly impacts the ability of any teacher to teach more efficiently and with more FUN, and students benefit from using technology at early ages that they will need to understand in the future. The ability to create and interact as part of lessons – such as playing with planetary maps, watching informative videos, or even just using it like a regular whiteboard – is engaging for students, and teachers find a wealth of programs and lessons at their fingertips.
So please thank Tina Goar and the Morgridge Family Foundation for $25,000 in this grant cycle.
Also, the Gilpin Foundation is having their Golf Tournament at the Evergreen Golf Course on May 22nd. The Gilpin Foundation supports many activities and equipment purchases for our school – this is just a sample: PTA and their support of the CSAP testing period, Choir to Washington D.C.’, Football and Basketball Camp scholarships, Supplies for the Montessori classrooms, Two Opera performances, Ink Cartridge Recycling program, Smart Boards for the computer labs, 6th grade outdoor education program…. the list goes on.
Please support the Gilpin Foundation and give Tina your thanks – you can give her a ring at the school or send an email: 303-582-3444 or visit the school website to send a contact form.
